Connecting an electric vehicle (EV) to a charging station, also known as the electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), initiates highly complex, encrypted communication. This charging communication is defined in specifications like DIN 70121, ISO 15118-2, and ISO 15118-20. When it comes to developing the related controllers, understanding this communication is key. The Wireshark Foundation offers a special analysis tool which helps record and analyze the charging communication. With dsV2Gshark, dSPACE now provides a free plug-in offering valuable additional features.
What is dsV2Gshark – and which features does it offer?
The dSPACE plug-in dsV2Gshark for Wireshark® allows you to analyze and decode packets between EVs and EVSEs, also known as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) messages. For this, it uses a special decoder from our valued partner chargebyte GmbH, a solution provider in the field of charging communication. The open-source plug-in lets you visualize and analyze the communication in detail, offering features such as:
- Decoding of all V2G-based messages
- Validation of V2G messages with regard to the XSD specification
- Color highlighting and filtering of the different communication layers
- Optimized readability of Plug & Charge (PnC) certificates
- Live transport layer security (TLS) decryption
- Analysis of incomplete recordings
